AI receptionist
An AI receptionist is an AI phone assistant that takes on the tasks of a front desk: answering calls, giving information, sorting requests and putting callers through.

Very different calls arrive at a front desk: new enquiries, appointment requests, suppliers, questions about invoices. An AI receptionist recognises what a call is about, answers recurring questions itself and passes everything else to the right person, either by transferring the call or as a note for a callback.
For that to work it needs clear rules: who is responsible for what, when a call is put through, which details must be on hand before the handover. The term therefore describes a role and not a product of its own. Depending on the use, the same technology is also called an AI phone assistant or a virtual phone answering service.
